Lucy McRae, the “body architect” who has worked on a few projects with the Swedish pop star Robyn, recently did a TedTalk about her work.
With knowledge in ballet, architecture, and fashion, it really is no wonder how she creates what she does. Her work is often a mixture of futuristic bio-synthetic processes that aim to understand human beings on different and new levels.
This is probably one of many perfect examples of what this blog is really about. The origin of our name, Skyn and Bonez, was inspired by the fact that human beings, buildings, and garments all have the idea of skin and bones embedded into their identity. McRae is taking these characteristics and blurring them to create new ones. What she is accomplishing by doing so we can’t really say, but God damn is it gorgeous to look at!
Enjoy this little 6 minute tidbit and check out the making of Robyn’s “Indestructible” here.
Very exciting news from Skyn and Bonez!
After a long hiatus, we would like to try again and make an effort to bring you the very latest in architecture and fashion. Thankfully and hopefully, we’ll be able to come back with some very interesting material.
The one and only Marc Fornes will be lecturing at the University of Texas San Antonio’s College of Architecture this Friday (April 13th, 2012) at the Riklin Auditorium. Fornes, who is a graduate of AA London (Can you hear the angels singing?), has worked closely with the likes of Zaha Hadid and SOM on top of being invited to lecture at the MoMA and Guggenhium.
Shoot us a message if you have any questions or comments.

The fantastic Nicola Formichetti’s pop-up store is almost here! We here at Skyn and Bonez are very excited for this project. It’s unfortunate that we’re located in central Texas, because you know we’d be all over that if we were located in good ol’ NYC.
McQ Flipbook: Women’s Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection
BOFFO, a non-profit New York based organization, has announced the winners of it’s annual Building Fashion competition.
In an effort to enlighten the community about the importance of design, this particular competition is held in order to pair an up and coming fashion designer with an architect/architecture team to create a temporary installation that exhibits the future of the built environment and the clothes we wear.
This year, Nicola Formichetti was one of the fashion designers chosen to collaborate. The 2010 recipient of the British Fashion Award is more famous for his work with Uniqlo, Vogue, MAC, Mugler, and Lady Gaga
The other half of this collaboration, Gage / Clemenceau Architects, is a young duo based in New York City. Winners of the 2006 AIA New York New Practices citation and the Architectural League of New York’s Young Architects, these two talented young men have a distinguished aesthetic that mixes classicism and contemporary styles, striving for “beauty” and “architecture that has an emotional impact.”
The exhibition is currently under construction and will be displayed September 8, 2011, located on 57th Walker Street in New York City.
Manish Arora, the extremely talented Indian fashion designer, has been catching my eye lately. Although he’s been around for more than a decade now (his first show was in 2000), it seem like artists Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, and Kanye West have also recently been drawn in.
This particular RTW collection was featured in Paris instead of the usual Indian Fashion Weeks. He does not fail to deliver the psychedelic color palettes and Western kitsch that he is notable for. However, there is more refined direction in this particular body of work; the subdued hues, elegant cuts, and futuristic silhouettes just scream Fall fashion of the 22nd century.
I’m eagerly awaiting his menswear.
